Joke Gone Wrong – Retiring Cook Makes Space Cake for Colleagues, Gets Sued

A retiring Dutch cook who wanted to say goodbye to her colleagues in a special way cooked a cannabis-infused space cake for them as a surprise. It didn’t go well…

The retiring cook, known only as Mariska, had worked in a Zeeland hotel alongside her colleagues for a long time and wanted to part ways with them in a memorable way. They had discussed the cannabis-infused space cake many times in the past but had never gotten around to actually making it together, so she decided to make one for them, as a parting gift. On February 8th, on her last day on the job, she greeted her colleagues and left the workplace, but not before leaving behind a surprise cake for her colleagues along with a note advising them to only eat it after working hours. Unfortunately, some of them just couldn’t wait.

High School Students Create High-Tech Device to Accurately Cut Cake Into Equal Pieces

A team of Japanese high-school students recently won a regional innovation competition with a high-tech device that divides cake and pizza into equal portions every single time.

It’s a problem as old as the world – cutting a round treat into more than two equal parts. You either end up with portions that are not exactly the same size, or you’re left with a smaller extra slice that everyone has their eye on. Well, thanks to the ingenuity of a group of Japanese students from Kundong High School in Japan’s Oita Prefecture, dividing a cake or a pizza into perfectly equal portions need no longer be an issue. They have created a high-tech device that calculates the angle at which the tasty treat needs to be cut, depending on the number of necessary slices.

Food Artist Creates Life-Size Suckling Pig Cake

I’ve posted my share of awesome-looking cakes on Oddity Central, but Michelle’s Wibowo’s suckling pig cake looks incredibly realistic.

Created for the Experimental Food Society Spectacular, an event that took place during the past weekend, Michelle’s suckling pig cake was a big hit, and has made the headlines of various online publications. The Experimental Food Society is made up of a group of “ground-breaking gourmet artists that demonstrate there is more to life than just swallowing.”

Michelle Wibowo has a degree in Architecture, but decided to pursue her passion in cake decorating and sugarcraft, and is now one of the most talented cake decorator in the world. She developed her skills by decorating thousands of cakes in cake shops around London, and now works from her own studio, in West Sussex.

Alien Facehugger Cake – Would You Eat It?

I’m mad about cool looking cakes, and if you’ve been here before, you already know that. Now, I know I said stuff like “I wouldn’t eat this!” about other disgusting-looking cakes, but compared to this Alien facehugger cake, they all look mighty delicious.

Presented at the “That Takes The Cake 2010” sci-fi themed cake show, in Austin, the edible Alien facehugger looks like it crawled right off the set of an Alien movie. I’m sure it’s tasty and everything, but just looking at it, instantly kills my appetite.

I know many of you wouldn’t mind having this particular facehugger grab a hold of your face, but their are much nicer looking cakes out there. Hat’s off to the artist that made this, though.

Deliciously Creepy Victim Of Hannibal Lecter Cake

Hello Clarice…Actually it’s ‘Good evening, Clarice’, but heck, most people are familiar with just the first one. Anyway, here’s a very cool Silence of the Lambs themed cake.

Created by Celebration Generaton Cakes, for the Czar of Cakes Challenge at the Minnesota Monthly Food & Wine Experience, the Victim of Hannibal Lecter Cake is one of the most original I’ve seen. And as you may know, I’ve recently posted quite a number of cool cakes, lately.

Made with fondant, sugarpaste, gumpaste, cocoa and other sweet ingredients, the Silence of the Lambs theme was chosen because there was no way someone else ‘would think of, much less actually use it’.

Best Jabba the Hutt Cake Ever

I’ve seen my share of Jabba the Hutt birthday cakes on the web, but this is by far the best ever.

Edible Jabba was made for the birthday of a four-year-old fan of the famous Star-Wars character, who specifically requested that Rotta (Jabba’s son) also be included in the sweet work of art. It was made by an unnamed ‘friend of the family’, out of chocolate cake, chocolate fudge and fondant. As delicious as that sounds I couldn’t take one bite out of this Jabba the Hutt cake, it’s just too perfect.

Congratulations to the artist for a job well done! Photos via icruise_flickr, parent of a very lucky 4-year-old.
