The Talented Showjumping Bunnies.

Sure, rabbits hop all the time, but not many do it over miniature fences, like showjumping horses.

15-year-old Matthew and Thomas Haslam are the proud owners and trainers of some of the smartest pets in Britain. Bubbles and Lilac are two of the twenty rabbits that like to jump over small fences, in the boys’ backyard. These two have shown particular skill and have participated in the Ultimate Pet Show, between the 2nd-4th May.

The two boys suffer from Asperger’s Syndrome, a sort of Autism and spending up to seven hours a day, for the last nine years, playing with rabbits has really helped them a greatr deal.

Shrek and Fiona in Real Life

Everybody knows the popular animation movie Shrek has a large fan-base, but some of those fans go as far as to get married dressed as their favorite characters.

British nurse Christine England and her fiance Keith got married last month, wearing the costumes of Fiona and Shrek. They spent over three hours putting on the costumes and green make-up, but it was worth it, since it was a wedding neither of them will forget.

Christine tried to get her 18 years old son to dress-up like Donkey, but “he wasn’t having any of it”. The 100 guests attending the wedding were also dressed in funky, fairytale costumes.

Citroen Karin – Future Car of the Past

The Citroen Karin is one of those “what might have been” old concepts, that never went into production.

Looking back at the car industry of the 1980s, the Citroen Karin, was one of the most revolutionary concepts. Because it didn’t have any new models to present at the 1980 Paris Auto Show, Citroen gave car designer Trevor Fiore the go-ahead to create an original model. The Karin never made it onto the production line, mostly because it was an unpractical vehicle, but the futuristic design inspired other designers to get passed their traditional way of thinking, and opened the way for the beautiful vehicles we see on the streets today.

2009 Office-Chair Racing Championship

The Germans have done it again. I really thought they were a really serious people, focused only on their work, but it turns out they know how to have fun as well.

After they organized the Ice Swimming Festival in Neuburg, early this year, the Germans strike again with the 2009 Office-Chair Racing Championship. The rather unusual racing competition was held on April 25, in Bad Koening Zell, in western Germany. Competitors raced on a 200-meter-long course, in basic or modded office-chairs.

The Office-Chair Racing Championship was first held in 2008, but it’s already growing in popularity and, who knows, it could become an Olympic sport pretty soon.

The Train-Bar of Brno

Who new toy-trains could be so useful.

These photos were taken in a bar somewhere in Brno, the Czech Republic. It might look like a nice decorative addition, but that train has a very specific purpose. Its rail passes through the bar, stops at customer tables, taking their orders. Then it goes back to the bartender, who sends the drinks in the train carts.

It’s a very ingenious system that spares the customers the trouble of having to tip the waitress. I wonder how quick it is though, do the customers have to wait a long time for the toy-train to bring them their drinks?

Cruel Donkey Fight in Afghanistan

Afghanistan is better known for dog fighting, but the new generation is trying to make a change…for the worst, by introducing donkey fighting.

Dog fighting had been forbidden as a sport by the Taliban, but since the American invasion and the fall of the old regime, the cruel sport has returned, drawing huge crowds,l near the capital of Kabul. Unfortunately, the younger generations apparently have no intention of wising-up, instead they’re introducing a new blood-sport, donkey fighting.

These photos, taken near a German armed forces encampment, in Kunduz, show a young boy pitting to poor donkeys into fighting each other, while the other children watch the violence display smiling.  Just like other people watch ouzel fights or horse fights. Read More »

Extreme Balancing Acts

29-year-old extreme balancing artist, Eskil Ronningsbakken has to be one of the world’s most amazing performers.

Ronningsbakken has performed the most dangerous balancing acts I’ve ever seen, riding a bike upside down, balancing under a balloon in plain flight and on cliffs thousands of meters high. He says ‘That’s the balance between life and death, and that is where life is.’

His balancing career began when he was only five years old and he saw a yogin serenely balancing. Now he is one of the most famous extreme balancing artists in the world. His next dream is to perform his breathtaking stunts on top of the Burj al Arab Hotel, in Dubai.

Read more on the amazing Eskil Ronningsbakken here.

The Plane-Hotel of Costa Rica

If you are afraid of flying, but want to spend a night in an airplane, then travel to Costa Rica and spend a night at the Costa Verde Hotel.

There are a lot of things you can do with an old jumbo-jet, some just cut it to pieces and sell it as scrap-metal, others transform it into a bar and call it El Avion, others make a plane-boat out of it, and others turn it into a airplane-hostel. So a plane-hotel shouldn’t seem that bizarre.

The plane hotel is an old Boeing 707 from 1965 that now has two bedrooms, two bathrooms. a dinningroom, a kitchen and a terrace overlooking the ocean. It’s definitely not your average vacation hotel, but if you’re into trying new things, the Costa Rica plane-hotel is worth $300-$350 per night.

Tiger + Pig = FRIENDSHIP

Sriracha Zoo is already popular for the unlikely friendships that have developed there between tigers and other animals like pigs and dogs.

Over 400 Bengal tigers are on display at Sriracha Zoo, where they make up what is called Happy Families, with pigs and other animals. Mature tigers take naps right next to full-grown pigs,m which they would normally devour without remorse.  Piglets fed by tigresses, and tiger cubs by pig surrogate mothers.

This is not the first example of unlikely friendships we’ve posted on OddityCentral, but it is one of the most amazing. Here are a cat and dog acting all buddy-buddy.

Cool Custom-made Cupcakes

I never knew the words cool and cupcake could be used in the same sentence, but now I know it’s possible.

I found these photos while surfing the web, the other day, but, fortunately, I managed to find the original source, Hello Naomi. It’s an Australian bakery that makes custom cupcakes for special events. Their products look amazing and, according to their website, they taste just as good.

I visited this custom cupcakes heaven, and the prices are a bit spicy, but if you’re looking to find a special gift, you can’t go wrong with cupcakes. They have an impressive collection of designs to choose from, or you can just tell them what you want.

Too bad I don’t live in Australia…

Real USB Finger

There are a lot of wacky USB drives out there these days, but this USB finger is definitely one of the oddest.

Jerry Jalava lost one of his fingers in a biking accident. Nothing out of the ordinary so far, I personally have a friend that lost a finger while tampering with his bike, but the way hedealed with his problem is definitely out of the ordinary. Instead of getting a simple fake finger, Jerry decided to get a much more useful USB finger. He embedded a 2gb USB drive in his new silicon finger.

I would have gone with a larger storage device but I guess 2gb is better than the no gb.

Mini Moscow

If you don’t have the time to visit all of Moscow’s atractions you can see them all in miniature.

Following France’s miniature model, Russians have created a miniature model of their beautiful capital, ever since 1986. During an annual workshop, every structure in the model is wiped of dust and workers replace old buildings with the newly built, so the model is always up-to-date.
