A Malaysian woman who took care of her bedridden husband for six years following a car accident recently announced that her husband divorced her and married another woman following his recovery.
For years, Nurul Syazwani documented her daily life as her husband’s caretaker on social media, showcasing her busy routine which included feeding the man through a nasogastric tube, changing his diapers and helping him bathe. Nurul’s husband was injured in a car accident and needed six years in order to walk again, during which time she was by his side. Her dedication and dutiful service to her husband attracted 32,000 fans on Facebook alone, many of whom were shocked to learn that Nurul Syazwani’s husband hadn’t only divorced her after recovering but had also married another woman. They learned of the crazy development from Nurul who congratulated her ex-husband and his new bride in a Facebook post.
“Congratulations to my husband, I hope you are happy with the one you chose. Aifa Aizam, please take good care of him like I did. I am done with him, now it is your turn to take over,” Nurul wrote in a now-deleted post.
News of Nurul’s divorce, which was reportedly finalized on October 4, shocked Malaysian social media, with many users refusing to believe that someone could repay her kindness by abandoning her. Some of those people who had followed their journey on Facebook, with Nurul doing everything in her power to make sure her bedridden husband was taken care of for six years expressed their disappointment at the man’s decision to divorce her as soon as he recovered only to marry another woman.
“At that time, I was terribly scared whenever he coughed,” Nurul Syazwani recalled about her time as a caretaker. “I did rehabilitation for him every day, and my family came to help every day so that I could rest. I often bought necessities for my children and husband by myself, which was very stressful.”
However, Nurul also pointed out that she felt like her now-ex-husband “had fulfilled his responsibilities well,” and asked people to stop harassing him and his new wife, adding that she and her ex had agreed to work together to raise their daughter. However, her fans did not agree.
“I don’t agree that he has fulfilled his responsibilities as a husband,” one person commented. “How can there be such an ungrateful person? It seems he has no heart.”
To spare her ex-husband and his new wife from the criticism of the masses, Nurul Syazwani deleted her original Facebook post and apologized to the newlyweds for directing attention to them. She also asked her fans to stop blaming her ex-husband for what happened.
“I want to apologize to my ex-husband, his new wife, and their families regarding the viral post on Facebook. Everything that happened was my mistake,” Nurul wrote. “Everyone is wondering and tagging me on Facebook. So my posting on Facebook is not aimed at exposing shame or sarcasm but to avoid slander.”
