As part of this year’s Movember, Australian menswear brand Politix teamed up with visual artist Pamela Kleeman-Passi to create a unique suit using men’s mustache hair.
Movember is an annual event that encourages men all around the world to grow their mustaches in the month of November to raise awareness of serious men’s health problems, such as prostate cancer and testicular cancer. This year, Politix decided to do something special for Movember, and ultimately decided on a wearable men’s suit made using real mustache hair. It turned out to be one of the most hideous, disgusting-looking suits we’ve ever seen, but at least it’s for a good cause, and it’s a hell of a conversation starter.

The so-called Mo-Hair suit is made out of a unique fabric created by Melbourne-based visual artist Pamela Kleeman-Passi, who had a very special reason for getting involved in this project, as her husband passed away from prostate and colorectal cancer in 2016. Passi was provided with all the necessary mustache hair by Sustainable Salons, a salon hair recycling program that collects and recycles hair from various salons, and, as word about the projects started spreading, random people started sending her packages with their mustache hair as well.

The Melbourne-based artist weaved all the mustache hair together with cotton to create this original fabric,, which was then passed on to Politix design manager Paul Burden who cut it into a single-breasted suit. To avoid the itchiness usually associated with hair on skin, Politix lined the suit and printed several men’s health conversation starters.

“When hair is on your head, it looks really beautiful. But when it’s off the body it immediately becomes disgusting, repulsive, it really creeps people out,” Pamela Kleeman-Passi said. “I’m interested in the polarity between what’s really voluptuous and what’s really repulsive.”

The Mo-Hair suit isn’t commercially available, obviously, but who would want to wear a suit made of human hair anyway?
If wearing garments made from human hair, let alone mustache hair, sounds a bit offputting, maybe clothing made of dog hair is more up your alley.
