Chinese Woman Faces Divorce After Giving Birth to Dark-Skinned Baby

A young Chinese woman had the happiest day of her life turned into a nightmare after her husband asked for a paternity test because of their newborn baby’s suspiciously dark skin.

Chinese newspaper China Times recently reported the bizarre case of a 30-year-old Shanghai woman desperate to save her marriage after giving birth to a dark-skinned baby by C-section. The woman took to social media to tell her sad story and ask other mothers for advice on how to handle the situation. She claims that after delivering the baby, when it came time for her husband to meet his son for the first time, he just stared at him with bewildered eyes and refused to hold him. The woman admitted that she too found the baby’s dark skin odd and felt embarrassed when holding it, feeling the need to clarify that she “had never been to Africa and didn’t know any black people”.

Not only did the woman’s husband show no joy or interest in the baby, but he also asked for a paternity test to prove that the child was his. The woman agreed, but despite knowing that it would prove her husband’s paternity she felt wronged by her spouse and said that the trust between them has already been broken. The woman’s Weibo post went viral, and many were quick to assure her that the newborn’s dark skin tone was perfectly normal.

“This phenomenon can occur naturally in newborns because their skin tissue is thin and their blood circulation is poor,” one self-proclaimed expert commented. “It is very common for dark red skin to eventually turn white.”

“This is very common,” someone else confirmed. “The skin color will lighten over time.”

Others were more concerned with the husband’s attitude and his lack of confidence in the young mother, advising her to have a long, hard conversation with him about their relationship after the paternity tests came out.
