Every woman dreams of being the center of attention on her wedding day, but some go to extreme lengths to make sure that no one steals their thunder. Like this Australian woman who recently confessed to secretly fattening up her bridesmaids before the wedding in order to make them look ordinary.
Penny always knew that she was going to get “a little bridezilla-ish” while preparing her wedding, but not even she really knew the lengths she would be prepared go to in order to make sure that no one outshines her on her big day. The second of three sisters, Penny asked her siblings – Maggie and Charlie – to be her bridesmaids on the day she knew she was getting married, and they all started planning the celebration together. The three had always been very close and even lived in the same house along with Penny’s fiancé, Richie, but they had always been very competitive as well and the bride-to-be knew she had to find a way to outshine her attractive sisters on her wedding day.

“Both of my sisters are gorgeous,” Penny told Australian magazine Whimn. “I mean, stunning. I always felt like Jan Brady in the middle – I wasn’t as hot and popular as my older sister and I wasn’t as cute and fun as my younger sister. I was just Penny in the middle. But I found a man who loved me for me and I couldn’t be happier.”
Penny considered herself the plain sister, and after meeting with the wedding photographer and discussing dress options with her sisters, she started obsessing over the wedding photos. They were going to be in her house forever and she didn’t want to be constantly reminded that her sisters had outshone her even on the happiest day of her life. So she decided to make sure that didn’t happen.
Penny’s plan was simple – to make her sisters look as ordinary as possible, but to do it in the least obvious way. First, she picked out a neon yellow color for the bridesmaid dresses, which made both Maggie and Charlie look “washed out and slightly ill”. She told them she was going for a party look, but she was secretly happy that they both looked pallid in their dresses. However, that wasn’t enough.
“But by far the worst thing I did was to fatten up my sisters in the months leading up to the wedding. Every morning I was a picture of sunshine and morning glow as I insisted on making breakfast smoothies for everyone,” Penny confessed. “I told them I wanted us all to look our best on the big day, so I was making them this special slimming smoothie.”

What the future bride’s sisters didn’t know was that she was buying cans of weight loss shakes, emptying the contents and replacing them with” a mega-weight gain protein powder I found in a body building shop”. She went easy on them at first, but as the big day drew nearer, she started adding triple the prescribed amount into Maggie and Charlie’s smoothies, while leaving hers as fruit and coconut water.
By the time Penny’s wedding rolled around, both Maggie and Charlie had had their bridesmaid dresses altered to fit their thickened waistlines, while the bride-to-be looked perfect, just like she had planned. The wedding was great, and Penny says that she never once felt like she wasn’t the center of attention.
“Maggie and Charlie have both since lost the weight they gained in the lead-up to the wedding, and I’m glad about that,” Penny said. “Sometimes they ask me to make those delicious smoothies I used to make, but I tell them the weight-loss shake has been discontinued. I make them toast instead.”
So does she feel any remorse for her actions? Well, she confessed to feeling a little remorseful when looking at her wedding photos, but mostly she feels happy.
