Italian performance artist Sven Sachsalber is basing his latest work on an age old figure of speech. He’s going spend two whole days looking for a needle in a haystack. Well, people have been talking about it for so long, I say it’s about time someone actually gave it a try!
For two days this week – Thursday and Friday – 27-year-old Sven will be combing a stack of hay in search of that elusive pre-inserted needle, at Palais de Tokyo, a contemporary art gallery in Paris.
Sven, who currently lives in New York, is known for his intense performance art that is often physically exhausting. He’s done some pretty crazy things in the past – like eating a poisonous mushroom, cutting down the branches of a large tree by hand, and spending 24 hours in a room with a cow.
According to the gallery website, Sven is always the protagonist in his work. “Often funny, often serious and sometimes both, his work contains a universal poetic element.” And although his latest performance is scheduled for two days, there’s no telling how long it will actually take to spot the needle!
