A bully pitbull that’s almost the size of a miniature pony has become an internet sensation after his owners released photos and videos of him online. Aptly named ‘The Hulk’, the impressive canine weighs a massive 173 pounds and he is still growing!
At only 17 months, The Hulk is already three times bigger than other dogs of his breed, and he’s already being hailed as the ‘biggest bully pit bull on earth’. However, his owners,Marlon and Lisa Grennan, from New Hampshire, say The Hulk is a gentle soul, and even let their toddler son ride him like a horse. “These dogs are very balanced and gentle – they are nanny dogs,” Marlon said. “I don’t think it’s irresponsible for people to have pit bulls and children. They’re dogs just like any other dog. No matter what the breed it is, it is hundred per cent how you raise them.”
Still, the Grennans admit that The Hulk “could kill someone if it was in the wrong situation at the wrong time” and “snap an arm like a toothpick”.
In one of the his popular YouTube clips, The Hulk can be seen jumping on his owner to get a treat, and revealing his impressive stature. There’s also a clip in which he steps on a scale to check his weight – a whopping 173 pounds! Which really isn’t that surprising, considering he is fed a protein-rich diet of supplements and 4 lbs of ground beef every day.
Marlon Grennan and his wife own Dark Dynasty K9, a kennel that specializes in breeding and training security dogs, and admit that they strategically breed their canines for size. They believe the bigger the dog, the better, and The Hulk is their best specimen so far. “I breed my dogs for size,” Marlon says. “I have been strategically breeding my dogs for years to keep the best working traits alive.”
According to Becky Holly, a member of the board of Fresno Bully Rescue, breeding pit bulls of any size is a bad idea. “We get 400 requests a week from people who want to surrender their pit bulls,” she said. “Adding to the numbers of these dogs is irresponsible.”
But Grennan says he’s quite careful about whom he sells the dogs to. He makes sure to sign a contract with buyers, agreeing to checks on the dog and its environment every three months. He also says that he regularly takes in rescued dogs, and soon plans to start his own pit bull rescue program.
