The ladies’ bathroom at Bang Bang, a new San Diego sushi restaurant is so stunning that once they step inside, women don’t ever want to leave. You see, every inch of the walls is covered with posters and photographs of Hollywood heartthrob Ryan Gosling. I’m not going to waste time telling you just how dreamy this bathroom is for most girls; I think the pictures speak for themselves.
It’s a marketing strategy that’s so simple, it’s brilliant. Women are actually thronging Bang Bang, a Japanese social house, just for a glimpse of that bathroom. They’re taking ‘Gosling pics’ of themselves and putting them up all over the internet.
Given the fact that the restaurant just opened its doors in mid-July, the number of reviews it’s getting is mind-boggling. Everyone is just so hung up over the bathroom that nothing else seems to matter much – the food or even the ambience of the restaurant itself.
The restaurant (including the bathroom) was designed as a collaboration between designer Mauricio Couturier and restaurateur Johnny Shockey (who owns Voyeur and LED Presents). According to Farley Lucas, managing partner of Bang Bang, they strongly believe that all things need to be ‘Instagrammable’.
“Basically, anything we do from this project on we want to have elements that are social media friendly. I call them Instagrammable. I think, if a girl won’t Instagram it, I don’t want to do it,” said Lucas. He went on to reveal that Ryan Gosling is ‘just one of our good friends’, so we’re assuming that he’s completely okay with being the face of a ladies’ bathroom.
